NYC SST Training: 10 Hour Site Safety Training Online Course
If you are doing any construction work or demolition work in New York City where there is a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager, you must have your Worker Site-Safety Card in order to work on the job site in New York City. Part of the training that is needed is a 10-hour NYC SST Training course in order to obtain your Worker Site-Safety Card.
This course encompasses an 8-hour training session on fall prevention, as well as a 2-hour training session on drug and alcohol awareness on construction sites. The job site is large enough that it is important to understand what sort of hazards are present so that you can avoid them and even correct them before someone else has a fall on the job site, and the NYC SST is required.
NYC SST: New York City Site Safety Training
Historically, falls are the leading cause of fatalities in construction, accounting for about one-third of all fatalities in the industry. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported fatal falls to a lower level in private construction increased from 255 in 2011 to 370 in 2016, a 45-percent increase. The BLS also reported there were 338 fatal falls in construction in 2018, out of 1,008 total fatalities. OSHA recognizes that incidents involving falls are generally complex events, frequently involving a variety of factors.
The City of New York requires all construction and demolition workers have their Worker Site-Safety Card, which can be obtained after completion of NYC SST Training, in order to help ensure that all workers are knowledgeable about the prevention of falls as well as other hazards on the job site.

Manhattan’s skyline, with its many skyscrapers, is universally recognized, and the city has been home to several of the tallest buildings in the world. As of 2019, New York City had 6,455 high-rise buildings, the third-most in the world after Hong Kong and Seoul. A distinctive feature of many of the city’s buildings is the roof-mounted wooden water tower. In the 1800s, the city required their installation on buildings higher than six stories to prevent the need for excessively high water pressures at lower elevations, which could break municipal water pipes.
