NFPA 70E Certification

When it comes to electrical safety issues, OSHA relies on the consensus standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Although OSHA has their own set of standards you have to follow (§1910 Subpart S, §1926 Subpart K), you can reliably meet them by following NFPA 70E certification and training. NFPA 70E addresses employee workplace electrical safety requirements. The standard focuses on practical safeguards that also allow workers to be productive within their job functions.

Specifically, the standard covers the safety requirements for the following:

  • Electrical conductors and equipment installed within or on buildings or other structures, including mobile homes, recreational vehicles, and other premises (yards, carnivals, parking lots, and industrial substations)
  • Conductors that connect installations to a supply of electricity

Training for NFPA 70E Certification

Hundreds of worker deaths and thousands of injuries could be prevented each year if only various professionals would get the right training, including the NFPA 70E certification. Once you have had your training, you might also be curious about how long your certification is good for. NFPA 70E certification is valid for three years, at which time you will be required to recertify to maintain your education at a top level. It should be noted that the NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, is revised on a three-year cycle. As technology advances and new devices and methods are developed, it is important to continue your education and information so that you are knowledgeable, both about these new technologies and the safety that comes along with them.
