If you’re working construction in Manhattan, or managing a crew, NYC Site Safety Training (SST) is something you can’t afford to overlook. Local Law 196 requires workers and supervisors on most New York City construction sites to carry valid SST cards.
Whether you’re an individual trying to figure out what courses you need, or an employer making sure your team is compliant, we make it easier to get the right training without the usual confusion. This is where OSHA Pros can help.
We are a DOB-registered training provider. Our SST programs are developed and taught by Certified Safety Professionals who have hands-on experience in construction safety. These are not generic courses. They are built to meet all NYC Department of Buildings requirements and to reflect real-world situations your team faces every day.
Site Safety Training (SST) is a requirement enforced by the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB). It applies to nearly all job sites in Manhattan that require a Site Safety Plan, which includes high-rises, multi-story buildings, and most active construction areas.
Workers and supervisors must complete a certain number of DOB-approved safety training hours. If you’re an employer, that means you’re responsible for confirming every worker on your site is properly certified, or facing steep fines and potential stop-work orders.
We help both workers and companies meet those requirements.
If you want to work on construction or demolition sites in New York City, you are required to have site safety training that complies with the NYC Department of Building’s requirements if there is a Site Safety Plan for the site. Our SST Training courses provide you with information that meets these requirements and allows those who pass them the ability to work on these job sites.
This Local Law 196 is a requirement that construction workers and supervisors in the five boroughs of New York City receive safety training. This applies to most major worksites throughout the city, including those with a Site Safety Plan and a designated site safety coordinator, site safety manager, or construction supervisor.
Workers and New Entrants must initially pass a Department of Building-approved course that is 40 hours in length. Supervisors must pass a Department of Building-approved course that is 62 hours in length. These SST trainings are valid for a period of five years. Before the expiration of these SST trainings, a mandatory refresher course must be taken which is 8 hours in length. These refresher courses must continue every five years to remain compliant.
Before a course begins an initial verification is done to verify the identity and/or prior training documentation. All cards issued by OSHA Pros will have a QR code that can be scanned to verify a student’s eligibility.
We can also verify the SST training card with an email that includes the following information:
If you’re working on a site that requires a Site Safety Plan, you’ll need to carry a full SST card with 40 hours of approved training. Here’s a breakdown of what that looks like:
If you’re just starting out or transferring from another city, you may begin with a Temporary SST Card (after 10 hours of training) or a Limited SST Card (after 30 hours), but you’ll eventually need the full 40.
Just got hired? Starting your first job on a Manhattan construction site? You’ll start with the Site Safety Training for New Entrants.
This is often done through a 10+30-hour package or a 10-hour start followed by a structured training plan.

Manhattan is more than just a symbol of New York City, it’s where the skyline is always changing. From high-rise residential towers in Midtown to commercial builds in Hudson Yards, the borough is constantly under construction. That makes Manhattan one of the most active zones for job sites regulated under NYC’s Local Law 196. Projects in Manhattan often involve multi-trade teams, outside subs, and high public visibility. That means keeping crews certified with OSHA-authorized and DOB-approved training isn’t just about compliance, it’s about running a safe, legal, and efficient site in one of the most scrutinized construction environments in the country. Workers and supervisors operating in neighborhoods like the Financial District, the Upper East Side, or the Lower West Side all need valid Site Safety Training (SST) cards to stay eligible for work. This includes general laborers, scaffold users, site supervisors, and new hires starting out in the field.
Whether you’re a worker trying to stay job-site eligible, or an employer with deadlines and compliance requirements to meet, we’ll help you take the next step.
