Construction professionals across Staten Island face the same NYC-wide safety requirements as the rest of the five boroughs. If you are working on a job site that requires a Site Safety Plan, the city mandates that all personnel complete Site Safety Training (SST) through a Department of Buildings-approved program.
OSHA Pros, via OSHA.net, provides official NYC SST training courses to help workers, supervisors, and employers on Staten Island meet compliance without the hassle. These are real, DOB-approved programs led by Certified Safety Professionals with deep knowledge of city regulations and site-level operations.
Whether you are training yourself or your whole crew, we help you get certified efficiently and with confidence.
In New York City, Local Law 196 outlines the safety training requirements for construction and demolition projects. Staten Island job sites are no exception. If the project requires a Site Safety Plan — and most multi-unit, mid-rise, or commercial builds do — then workers and supervisors must meet SST training standards before they can legally be on the job.
The full SST training for workers is 40 hours. For supervisors, the requirement increases to 62 hours. Employers are responsible for keeping accurate records of training status and making sure every worker holds a valid SST card before entering the site.
This is more than just red tape. It is an essential part of keeping everyone safe, on task, and in line with DOB expectations. We are here to help you check every box the right way.
If you want to work on construction or demolition sites in New York City, you are required to have site safety training that complies with the NYC Department of Building’s requirements if there is a Site Safety Plan for the site. Our SST Training courses provide you with information that meets these requirements and allows those who pass them the ability to work on these job sites.
This Local Law 196 is a requirement that construction workers and supervisors in the five boroughs of New York City receive safety training. This applies to most major worksites throughout the city, including those with a Site Safety Plan and a designated site safety coordinator, site safety manager, or construction supervisor.
Workers and New Entrants must initially pass a Department of Building-approved course that is 40 hours in length. Supervisors must pass a Department of Building-approved course that is 62 hours in length. These SST trainings are valid for a period of five years. Before the expiration of these SST trainings, a mandatory refresher course must be taken which is 8 hours in length. These refresher courses must continue every five years to remain compliant.
Before a course begins an initial verification is done to verify the identity and/or prior training documentation. All cards issued by OSHA Pros will have a QR code that can be scanned to verify a student’s eligibility.
We can also verify the SST training card with an email that includes the following information:
Workers on Staten Island are required to complete 40 hours of approved Site Safety Training to obtain a Full SST Worker Card. The training includes:
For newer workers, the process usually begins with a Temporary SST Card after 10 hours of training. Some may also receive a Limited SST Card once they complete 30 hours. These options allow you to begin working while finishing your remaining hours within the required time window.
New entrants often enroll in a bundled course or follow a step-by-step plan that gets them from 10 to 40 hours without repeating or missing essential topics. OSHA Pros offers flexible solutions to support both individuals and hiring managers trying to get teams up to speed.
Supervisors take on more responsibility — and the city expects more from them when it comes to safety training.
If you manage workers, enforce safety standards, or sign off on site documentation, then you need the 62-Hour SST Supervisor Course.
This full package includes:
Supervisors on Staten Island must meet the same requirements as those in Manhattan or Brooklyn. This course is structured to give you the knowledge and documentation needed to avoid violations and keep your projects moving.
This course is an important checkpoint. It updates workers and supervisors on the latest DOB rules, reemphasizes core safety principles, and keeps jobsite practices aligned with current expectations.
If you are managing multiple employees or subcontractors, OSHA Pros offers support for tracking who needs a refresher and when. This makes it easier for companies to stay on top of renewals and avoid costly compliance errors.
While it may not have the skyline of Manhattan, Staten Island is home to major development activity. From residential builds in New Dorp to infrastructure projects along the North Shore, active construction is taking place in every corner of the borough.
With that growth comes regulation. Any site with a DOB-required Site Safety Plan must comply with NYC SST laws. That includes general contractors, union crews, small subs, and independent tradespeople. Whether you are working near the ferry terminal or further out near Great Kills, your training must be current and approved.
We are proud to support the Staten Island construction community with training that meets city requirements and respects your time.

According to local Law 196 of 2017, construction workers and supervisors at most major worksites in the five NYC boroughs require additional safety training. NYC construction sites with a Site Safety Plan and a designated construction supervisor, site safety coordinator, or site safety manager require the NYC SST training.
