What is a rigger/signal person?
A rigger or signal person, is a worker who guides, hooks/unhooks loads, or connects loads to a structure. The purpose of a rigger/signal person is to ensure the safety of other workers or individuals in fall zones.
What training do I need to become a rigger?
To become a qualified rigger one must meet the following criteria: riggers must have a recognized degree, professional standing, or certificate in rigger signalman training OR otherwise have verifiable and ample experience as a rigger/signal person.
Is an OSHA certification required to become a rigger/signal person?
While technically riggers do not need an OSHA certification, it is important for all riggers to undergo a rigger and signalman course. Rigger signalman training can ensure that workers are qualified to perform their jobs safely and efficiently.
Becoming an equipped and qualified rigger or signalman starts with rigger signalman training. Although it is your employer’s responsibility to determine your competency as a rigger or signalperson, you can arm yourself with the knowledge needed to complete your job safely and effectively by enrolling in a rigger and signalman course.
